Dr G. Ravikanth
Senior Fellow and Convenor, ATREE Academy
Dr G. Ravikanth is a Senior Fellow (Professor) at the SM Sehgal Centre for Biodiversity and Conservation at Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment.
Over the past 25 years, Ravikanth has spearheaded research employing biotechnological tools to tackle tropical forest conservation and species recovery. Focusing on conservation genetics and molecular ecology, he delves into spatial genetic patterns of economically important species. He received his PhD from the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, and has received several awards, such as the DST-Young Scientist award and the Erasmus Mundus Action NAMASTE award.
He has published over 150 research papers in national and international journals, and his research interests encompass agrobiodiversity, conservation genetics, habitat conservation and niche modelling.
In recent years, he has been using environmental DNA to track and monitor species, aiming to enhance our understanding of how to better manage and restore ecosystems and their functions, which are vital to our society and economy.
