Dr Prakash Tyagi

Executive Director, GRAVIS

Dr Prakash Tyagi is the Executive Director of GRAVIS, where he has been leading the organisation for the last 19 years. GRAVIS reaches 2.5 million people living in poverty with its work, mainly in the Thar Desert, India, focusing on water security, food security and community health. The organisation has formed over 4,000 community-based organisations, and Dr Tyagi has also founded an important rural hospital in the Thar Desert.

Dr Tyagi has studied medicine, public health and geriatrics, and has supported various non-profits working on health and development aspects nationally and internationally. With his global health and development experience, Dr Tyagi has contributed to various international forums and has written frequently on major health and development aspects, especially healthy ageing, drought mitigation and nutrition.

Dr Tyagi is an active development practitioner and public health professional, contributing significantly to the fields of ageing, HIV, tuberculosis and occupational health through his writing, research and fieldwork. He is also a Clinical Professor at the School of Global Health at the University of Washington, USA.
